It’s “Pollen Season” here in the Carolinas! This is the time of year where everything is covered with a film of yellow-green dust! Everywhere!
When we first moved to South Carolina we did what we always did in springtime in Iowa! We opened the windows and enjoyed the spring time air! Well, when you do that here, be prepared to clean the WHOLE house! There was a film of green pollen EVERYWHERE inside!
Spring reminds of this verse from Isaiah:
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19 NIV)
God is about new things. When we believe in Christ as our Savior He makes us a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17), with a new nature (Col. 3:10) and a new future (Col. 1:13)! All to the praise of His glorious grace! (Eph. 2:8-9)!
Spring is a reminder of this work and a beautiful picture of this process. New life is “springing up!” And often it is a messy process, (like the pollen). The habits we form of selfishness, relying too much on ourselves or resources, self-centeredness and other habits that we have developed are hard to break! But God lovingly wants to bring new life to His children and will work in and with us to do this, when we let Him.
The truth of this verse continues to encourage me and challenge me:
“Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.” (Colossians 3:10)
God, help us in the process of this new life in Christ to become more like you!
